Bob Oram Design

39′ C

I first did a 12m sailing cat in 2000 as a custom design. In that time marina prices have escalated as availability has decreased. I suppose that comes as no surprise. Hence the 39C (it’s actually 39’4” or 11.98 mts long).

The 44C has been such a success with 14 either sailing or under construction that a slightly smaller version of the same boat would logically also be a success. This has proved to be the case with 4 starting construction in the 10 months since release.

The layouts are flexible with one of many that are available shown. They include a fore and aft cockpit version with galley up or down. We have 4 boats with the fore and aft cockpit option and I for one would never have another bridgedeck boat without two cockpits, the advantages are too many to mention here but the most important is simply safety. On Mango I probably walked on the side decks 10 times in 3 years of use.

Another safety feature was the ease and speed of putting a reef in the main. it was such a simple task that it was achieved single handed in about 3 minutes from easing the mainsheet to trimming it on again without taking one vertical step and being ‘in’ the boat and secure at all times.

A motor sailor version with a very simple and inexpensive rig is also available. The rig is lowerable so the boat can go under bridges to explore all the fresh water lakes, rivers and canals. It can be powered with a pair of diesels or outboards from 20hp to 100hp.
